Creating our Temple ...Remodeling a movie theater...

This was a tremendous undertaking by members of Audubon Lodge 218 and the work of remodeling started on Saturday, January 12, 1952 at night, Saturdays, and half days on Sunday. This lasted into November 1954. This was a major reconstruction project and we wonder how many of us now would undertake what the Brethern of our lodge did back then.

As you will see in the slide show, every area of the movie house had to be altered. The sloaping floor of the theater had to be dug away so the lodge floor could be flat. The East had to be elevated by 4 steps. In order to do that, the side of the building had to be opened so a small earth mover could be brought in. After the floor was dug out, stairs from the street level to the lodge room level had to be built along with the stairs to the refreshment area. The preparation room area had to be constructed. The upper balcony had to be constructed with stairs leading to it. The cellar where we have refreshment had to be remodeled. The coat room had to be constructed. The front of the building had a new face lift. In the slide show you will see some of the members back then. The ones you can see are having refreshment during the taking of the photo.

The slides may be out of order as far as when they were taken. If you look at all of them, you will have to appreciate the labors of our brethern back then. Please click onto the link below to start the slides.
